Chihuahua Field Guide

Graceful yet sassy, the Chihuahua is known for being one of the smallest dog breeds in the world—with one of the biggest personalities. Sometimes referred to as “purse dogs,” these tiny, charming dogs are extremely loyal to their owners but wary of strangers. If you live in the city, the compact Chihuahua makes the ideal partner for small living quarters and crowded areas.

The Chihuahua breed is said to have origins in Mexico, and they are named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua. According to the AKC, the Chihuahua is one of the oldest dog breeds in America.

Although there are many different types of Chihuahua dog breeds, such as the Long Hair Chihuahuas and Teacup Chihuahuas, the bold Chihuahua personality remains the same: charming, loyal and alert. Take a look at the Chihuahua field guide below for more information on this breed.
