The reptile diet isn’t as straightforward as you may think. There are many different types of pet reptile groups, including snakes, turtles and lizards—each with unique nutritional requirements.

While a leopard gecko survives on gut-loaded crickets and worms, a tortoise only eats fruits and vegetables, for example. This information is essential when it comes to choosing a reptile.

In general, you can expect most reptiles to feed on live foods (such as mealworms, superworms and frozen mice), pellets, fruits, vegetables and grasses. However, you should do research on your specific pet reptile species before choosing reptile food.
