When my Grandmother passed away, she had four surviving cats and a dog. I couldn't take all of them at that time because I was working, caring for my mother and my brother was living with us while be treated for cancer. The Humane Society of SETX was willing to assist me with trying to place my Grandmother's cats even though they were still overrun with animals from Hurricanes Rita and Ike. The resident vet adopted one to be the greeter cat for the spay and neuter clinic and another to take home. When it became apparent the other two were not getting adopted and weren't adjusting to the shelter environment, they allowed me to take them back. December 2008 was the anniversary of my Mother's death and I was feeling a bit down. I decided to adopt a new cat and they were very supportive and helped me to identify the most needy animals. I adopted Stormy and Shadow and can't tell you what joy they have brought me! It was my way of paying them back for the help they gave me in a time of crisis.

The best known shelter in the area
