  • 1. Why I love the Dunn Co. Humane Society

    by: dodger602002

I've adopted a dog and a cat from the Dunn Co. Humane Society. My daughter was a student at UW Stout, and they gave her cages to catch some stray cats she rescued, offered to take them if she needed to place them, and were very generous with their time. I've always been impressed with how aggressive their adoption efforts have been, they don't put too many restrictions on folks, and overall are very accepting. They seem to really follow many of the core principles of the no-kill movement that is being shared in the literature. They have an up to date website, and a lot of cats!! All in all, this is one of my favorite shelters. And my Buddy (dog) and Berk (cat) are happy they were there to help them!

Open and accepting, easy to adopt

    too small

this is really a wonderful, caring group of animal lovers! For such a small community, their involvement is contagious! I am from nearly 50 miles away and can feel the positive vibes from this shelter. We need more havens for pets like this.

Dunn County has a nice shelter. It can be a little overwhelming to see all the pets they have.

    Clean and friendly environment

lots of animals - can be overwhelming

The staff and manager were great during our adoption process last year. They know what they are doing and are very personable. They seemed to have a wide selection of adoptable dogs. They were able to guide us to the ones that would hopefully fit our needs. We will go back when another family pet is needed. We might have caught them at a bad time as it seemed they were low on staff, but I guess what shelter isn't.

Staff was great to work with during our adoption process.

    Maybe needs more staff?

In 2000 I had a problem with a stray cat in my neighborhood. Due to my broken garage door, she had two litters in my garage. I tried to catch her with a live trap to no avail. Fortunately, I caught the kittens. I was able to keep one cat from each litter, but I was forced by my circumstances to give the rest up to the Humane Society. Even though I lived in Amery where there was a Humane Society, I was forced to bring them to Menomonie. Dunn County took them for me quickly while my own Humane Society was putting me on waiting lists and giving me the run around. I was really impressed with the service at the Dunn County Humane Society. Two thumbs up!
