I walk the dogs maybe one or twice a week at the shelter. I am a student at niu and would like to run my own shelter in the future. I think the people at the Dekalb County Animal Shelter are doing a wonderful job. They keep the dogs and cats until they find a home...no matter how long that takes. I think the staff at the shelter also do a great job finding the right person to go with each animal. Keep up the good work:)

    Pros

This may be a small shelter but they care about the animals a great deal....I think they just need a little more help from people. Other than that i think they are doing a wonderful job

    Cons

The only con i can think of is they need more people to help them

I volunteered to walk dogs here in college, it always made me so sad, i wanted to take all the animals home. I eventually adopted my cat, Kitty from here, and i felt good about giving her a good home. At the shelter she was in case that was sitting on top of a cage with a barking dog in it. The shelter just needs a huge update to the whole facility, it's too small.

    Pros

    doing the best they can

    Cons

very small space with a lot of animals
