My latest addition Bella came from the ARL of Berks County after a breeder bust. They do animal control for the county, but they really try to place the animals either by adopting them out directly or turning to rescues for help. Being a rescue volunteer, I've dealt with a few shelters, and this is one of the nicest ones I've dealt with. They have even developed a foster care program for some of the older or harder to place animals that do not do well in a shelter environment. They take care of all kinds of animals, from hamsters to horses!

    Pros

    newly remodeled, wonderful caring staff

    Cons

    small parking lot

My husband and I adopted our very first dog as a couple here. Her name was Rags and she had been in deplorable condition when they found her. As ill as she was they nursed her back to health and did their best to find a home for this homely little waif. We were that home and she was a blessing to us every day of her life. We thank everyone there for the work they do. While they were cramped and shorthanded they did a great job with what they had to work with.

    Pros

Easy to find and caring of the animals they rescue

    Cons

    None I know of.
