Ruby the puppy has a story that has touched the hearts of many. When she was just a few months old, the lives of her owner and canine sibling were sadly taken during a house fire in Blakely, Georgia. Many assumed she had perished too, but two days later as residents were clearing the remnants from the fire, Ruby emerged.
While she survived, she was not unscathed. Ruby had third-degree burns on her legs and stomach area, and it is believed that she ran through the fire to escape. After traveling to an Alabama rescue group for care, she made her way to Suncoast Animal League in Palm Harbor, Florida. A group of firefighters from Palm Harbor Fire Rescue (PHFR) met her there and it was love at first sight.
On October 12, she received her badge during her oath-of-office ceremony and became an official member of the Palm Harbor Fire Rescue team. By all accounts and Palm Harbor Fire Rescue’s Facebook, she has been settling in wonderfully and has even gone to a sleepaway dog training camp to master her firehouse dog skill set.
Palm Harbor Fire Rescue, Palm Harbor residents and Facebook fans are not the only people feeling inspired by Ruby’s story. Online pet retailer, Chewy, took notice of her amazing courage and perseverance and wanted to treat her to something a little special.
Chewy sent little Ruby a fire hydrant filled with dog toys and dog treats as well as a personalized card and a lovely pet portrait. Needless to say, this pup is definitely one appreciated furry family member.
