Pet food manufacturer Breeder’s Choice Pet Foods has initiated a recall today on its AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula in the 26 pound bag.

Customers who have this product are advised to stop feeding it to their pets due to possible contamination with Salmonella, a highly toxic bacterium. The contamination risk was discovered during a quality testing procedure. As of press time, there are no reports of illnesses due to the food, nor have any foods besides the specified food been affected.

The recalled packages can be identified by their "Best by" dates:

28 Aug 2013

29 Aug 2013

30 Aug 2013

UPC code 0 5290702043 8

product code/SKU/material# 1000065074

Only the 26 pound bag was identified for recall.

AvoDerm said that the possible contamination was immediately contained while still at the distribution level so that it was intercepted before it could be distributed to retail stores. It is unlikely that any of the recalled food made it to the consumer level.

For more information, or for questions on this recall, visit the AvoDerm website at, or call the company’s consumer line at (866) 500-6286.
