Q. My 10 yr.old boxer wrenched his right rear leg on icy steps and won't put weight on it. We are snowed in so what can I do to help him? R.I.C.E? What?

Answered By

A. You can give him Benadryl to keep him calm and rested (1-2 25mg tablets every 12 hours) You can also ice his leg if he allows, to reduce any swelling. Do not give aspirin. Once the snow subsides and your vet reopens, I suggest taking him in for an exam. It could be as simple as a soft tissue injury or he could have torn his ACL from the slip.
