Q. My cat has had liquid stools for about 1 year. Her appetite is good, she is not losing weight, her stools smell bad.

A. That's really surprising that she's had diarrhea for a year and hasn't lost weight. Have you taken her to the vet for an assessment? I'm assuming she's been dewormed, but if not I'd start there. I would be looking for things like food allergies and inflammatory bowel disease for starters. We don't always see abnormalities on first line tests like blood work and x-rays, so sometimes diagnosis can be challenging. Many times we start by trying a hypoallergenic diet to rule out allergies. Sometimes we'll try a high fiber diet, because there does seem to be a type of chronic feline diarrhea that responds to additional fiber in the diet. This could be tough to figure out but hang in there because clearly there's something wrong.
