Q. My 9mo dog has a couple bald spots, 1 on the back, side of face, & belly. She doesn't itch or scratch, they are not irritated or inflamed, what is it?

A. I would first check your dog for mange. Demodectic mange causes focal hair loss and often the areas aren't itchy. Your vet can do this with a simple scraping of the skin. The debris is then examined under the microscope. The other possibility is ringworm, and this can be checked with either a special black light or a fungal culture. It's less likely that she has allergies because of her age, however I wouldn't rule it out.
