Q. My dog is having diarrhea or a real runny stool what can I give him to help him, he is a yorkie about 25 to 30 lbs

A. As long as your dog is feeling well otherwise (normal appetite, normal activity level, etc) you can try offering a bland, high fiber diet, such as boiled white meat chicken and boiled rice in small, frequent feedings to see if this settles his GI tract and firms up his stool. Cook the chicken and the rice separately in water only (no salt or seasonings added). Offer 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food about every 4 hours. If the diarrhea resolves over 12 to 24 hours transition slowly back to a regular diet. If not, seek the advice of your vet, as this may require anti-parasitic or anti-bacterial drugs to treat, or could represent a more complex disease process.
