Q. Can you use a human pregnancy test on a dog?

Answered By

A. No, unfortunately it would not be accurate. The best way to tell if a dog is pregnant is with a veterinary exam. Usually an ultrasound will reveal puppies at just under a month of pregnancy. If you think your dog could be pregnant (i.e. You saw her mating with another dog) then I'd urge you to get her to a vet ASAP to determine what your options are, including spaying her immediately.

A. No, you cannot. See your vet about 4 weeks after the last breeding. Your vet can palpate (feel), use abdominal ultrasound or submit bloodwork to test relaxin levels to determine pregnancy in a dog.
