A. Great answer below. I'll also add that there are many approaches to treating arthritis pain. Angel is correct - there are excellent anti-inflammatories for dogs that are safe and effective in controlling arthritis pain. You should also talk to your vet about using products such as supplements - like fish oils and glucosamine/chondrotin supplements, as well as injectable products like Adequan. Acupuncture can help as well, along with weight loss (if necessary) and physical therapy. Don't give up - there are many ways you can help your dog feel more comfortable.
