Q. Should I adopt a dog from pound who tested pos for heartworms and is getting treatment now?

Answered By

A. This is a personal decision. Dogs which are suffering from illness are more likely to be over-looked by other adopters so they can have less of a chance of finding a home right away. If the dog is being treated can the costs are covered by the shelter, I would still encourage you to consider this dog. You are doing a great thing by offering a home to an animal in need. You should meet with the staff and ask lots of questions about treatment, costs, outcome, potential set backs or side effects in the future so you are making an informed decision.
