Q. My cat is licking the fur off her lower back and tail. What is wrong with her, and what can I do about it?

Answered By

A. I would take her to the vet to determine the cause. It is possible that stress is causing her to over groom (any recent changes in household dynamics?), skin infection, parasite like fleas or mange (vet can do a skin scraping) and prescribe appropriate treatment. In the mean time, you can put a E-collar (cone) on to prevent her from pulling more hair out but she needs to get this resolved quickly as its likely driving the poor girl crazy.
