Q. My almost 10 year old dog has a little blood on the tip of his penis. He is white so I noticed it when he was laying down. It looked like a scratch

Answered By

A. If it is a scratch than I would not worry, but I would check again tomorrow as a urinary tract infection could result in blood in the urine. If you see more blood I would take him in for a urinalysis and physical exam. It is concerning that your dog is not neutered as older male dogs have a much higher rate of prostate cancer. A rectal exam should be done 1-2 times yearly to rule out this contributing to the bloody discharge
