Q. Is it normal for my never pregnant dog to want to take on the mother role of another dogs puppies?

Answered By

A. It is totally possible and normal for a dog to have good mothering instincts. With many types of animals there are individuals with a strong mothering instinct and those that do not. I would recommend that if she is not spayed and you don't intend to breed her that you take her to a vet to get her spayed. Adult females are at high risk for a uterine infection called a pyometra . This is a condition that can be life threatening.
