Q. I put tea tree oil on my 25# dog 14 hours ago. He now has a rash at site but no other signs of toxicity. Will he be ok? Did I hurt his liver?

Answered By

A. If he is acting normal otherwise, he may just be having a local reaction to the oil. You should never use anything with tea tree oil on your dog since it appears he is allergic. As for damaging his liver, it is probably unlikely that a small amount used topically would cause liver problems but you could have him examined by a vet for bloodwork to evaluate his liver values.
