Q. My dog was spayed 5 days ago, she does not want to eat or drink and only lays around

Answered By

A. Usually a pet is feeling almost back to normal 5 days after a spay surgery. It may be a good idea to call your vet and have her rechecked. The veterinarian will likely take her temperature, look for signs of a post-op infection, check for dehydration and make sure there are no post-op complications. In the meantime, you can check her gums....make sure they are pink and moist. If you are able to take a rectal temperature, do so. Normal temperature for a dog would range from 100 to 102. She may be okay, but she could possibly need antibiotics, pain medication or fluids.
