Q. I have a 12 yr old Golden Retriever. She is still very active. I have noticed this week that she seems to be loosing or lost her hearing. Causes??

A. Definitively infections or inflammations of the ears could be one of the causes. Otitis externa, media or interna can cause partial or complete deafness. Other common cause is what is called presbycussis (cochlear conductive defects, or senile receptor degeneration). Please take her to your veterinarian for a check up to identify the possible cause or engage in a consultation to discuss it further.

A. It might be something just related to aging and be quite an natural process. It could also be secondary to an ear infection , just have a look inside her ears for any redness or inflammation. If in doubt, book an appointment to have ears examined by your vet. Last , you should keep an eye for any other neurological symptoms, such as circling for example or being wobbly on her legs, anything unusual should be reported to your vet.
