Q. I have an 8m Clover Hill pitbull who's going threw her 1st Heat. Her privates have become 50xs larger. Is that normal?

Answered By

A. External genitals usually increase in size during heat. The production of estrogen in this period causes vaginal tissues to expand, occasionally protruding outwards from the vulva.

Some urinary and genitals tract infections can cause vulva swelling as a consequence of vaginal infection. If you notice other signs as depression, lethargy, inappetence, frequent urination, vomiting, diarrhea an infection could be present and I would recommend to take her to your veterinarian for a check up and appropriate treatment. I am happy to assist you in a consultation if require to discuss this problem any further.
