Q. my ten year old dog broke his hind leg 7 weeks ago. he had surgery and now the bone is not fusing. do i amputate?

Answered By

A. Amputation is a quite drastic option that may be considered depending on the nature of the fracture. Unfortunately a lot of clinical informations may be needed to answer specifically to this question (including x rays, type of fracture and surgery performed, postoperative care and others).
I would strongly recommend to have a second opinion consultation with a specialist in small animal surgery (ACVS or ECVS diploma holder) and have all these details assessed and commented.
