Q. My 13 yr. old dog's nose has gone from wet and smooth to dry and very rough. Is this a symptom of a disease? What should I do?

Answered By

A. Some skin disease can start at the nose and make it hard, dry and crusty. It can also happen sometimes when a dog is used to "dig" in the ground using his nose, it's common for the nose to become rough and dry when they do this.

If you think your dog is not digging it's then more likely to be a skin condition. In this case I would advise taking him to the vet to get diagnosed and treated.
