Q. I came home from work today and one of my cats has a bent swollen ear. I can only guess how she got it because I wasn't there when it happened

Answered By

A. Swollen ear is usually a self inflicted condition, from either scratching or head shaking. The reason for that happening is almost always an ear infection.

The swollen ear needs to be treated either surgically (drainage and suturing) or medically (steroids for a month) and the ears need to be treated for the infection with prescription ear drops. If earmites are the reason for the infection, it's recommended to apply a spot on (revolution or advocate).

Take her to the vet tomorrow and together with the vet decide what is best.
