Q. My vet prescribed Meloxidyl for my 13 year old cat. Meloxidyl says for dogs only. Renal failure may occur in cats. My vet prescribed a low dose of 0.1

Answered By

A. This is just because the cat formulation is 0.5mg/ml and the dog formulation is 1.5mg /ml but it is actually exactly the same medication for cats and dogs.

Yes, kidney failure is always a risk with this medication, this is why for cats over 8 year old it is advised doing a blood test before prescribing this medication.
