Q. I don't understand why my 11 week old puppy is eating poop I have her on a well balanced dry and wet food I am crate training her all of a sudden this

Answered By

A. This behavior is called Coprophagia and typically dogs do this out of habit. It doesn't mean that you are not providing a good balanced diet. You an try to curb the behavior by doing the following:

1) Add 1/2-1tsp of meat tenderizer to the food- this makes the poop taste bad

2) Pick up the poop as soon as she defecates

3) Try to distract her away from the poop, with toys or treats, when you see her attempting to eat it

4) There is a product that is specifically designed to stop puppies from doing this unwanted behavior and it is called Forbid. You have to get this from a veterinary clinic
