Q. Female dog smells like fungus around tummy & vulva area & it's dark & won't wash off. She smells bad even after bath.

Answered By

A. This is a classic sign of a yeast infection that has caused some vaginitis (inflammed vaginal tissue, looks like dark areas).

You will need prescription anti-fungal wipes and oral anti-fungal pills (if severe) to help clear up this infection. Schedule an appointment with your vet and this should be easily diagnosed and treated appropriately.

However there may be a conformational issue that is causing this, so your vet will check the vulvar flaps (Folds of skin around the vagina) to ensure they are not creating this issue.
