A. There are many reasons for hard skin on feet and pads, from walking on abrasive or irritant surfaces to poor/dry skin and some nutrient deficiencies, especially in certain breeds. Fungal and bacterial infections can also affect the skin on a dogs feet. Hard skin on the pads would likely cause significant irritation to the delicate skin between his toes and cause itching and biting at them. I recommend a high quality, skin specific diet and a full check up to investigate underlying factors. A skin biopsy may be required to diagnose accurately what is going on
