Q. I was wondering is there an antibiotic I can purchase or anything for a cyst on my dogs right hind leg to get it to go away

Answered By

A. Antibiotics are drugs which can only be prescribed by a veterinarian for specific infections as diagnosed with a full clinical exam. True cysts in themselves are not infected and will not respond to antibiotics. If the lump is red, painful or increasing in size it must be examined and treated by your vet as soon as possible. If it is cool, firm and non painful then bathing in salt (table salt or epsom salts) and water may help to keep it clean and prevent infection
