Q. My pet has been diagnosed as adenocarcinoma of the rectum . She is 12 yrs old. The doctor says he will not operate becos of poor prognosis.

A. I am sorry to hear your news and yes, unfortunately this particular type of tumor does have a poor prognosis and if attempted requires very radical surgery. Referral to an oncologist vet (cancer specialist) may be able to explore some options with her if there are no other major complicating factors but long term her outlook may still be limited
