Q. Dog is limping. Swollen pad. No obvious sign of trauma. The pad is cracked like dry skin

Answered By

A. If the pad is cracked and swollen there is a possibility of a foreign body such as sand, glass or dirt being stuck inside it and causing an inflammation. You could try bathing or poulticing with epsom salt to try to draw anything out followed by a moisturizing ointment such as lanolin or silcocks base but if the lameness continues beyond 24-36hours it will need to be explored by a vet and possibly x-rayed
