Q. Hi, my ferrets mouth is clenched shut and he can't walk. His eyes are locked in one spot. And he is unresponsive. Do you know what's wrong with him?

Answered By

A. I am sorry to hear he is so unwell. He is displaying neurological (nervous system) signs and this is very serious; signs as severe as this can also occur immediately before death from a wide range of causes. It is impossible to guess as to what may have caused this, he may have developed a virus or been in contact with something toxic. I recommend you get an urgent appointment to investigate and discuss any potential treatment options although I am afraid these may be limited. If you have other ferrets, I recommend you arrange a full post-mortem if he does not survive in order to investigate exactly what happened in order to reduce the risk of it happening again
