Q. My dog has had an x-ray and I have been told she has narrowing of a vertebra in her spin I cant afford a mri scan what are my options

A. I recommend a consult with a veterinary physiotherapist to examine for any complicating injuries and advise on appropriate exercise to maintain mobility as well as on activities to avoid. Rest and regular exercise and a complete avoidance of jumping up or down on chairs etc is important, weight control, pain relief as necessary and diets or supplements designed to promote joint and cartilage health are all useful. She is very young so it is important to try and limit progression as far as possible but her light frame should help her to maintain her mobility with careful management. Further imaging would be required if you were considering surgery to stabilize her spine but conservative management of pain and planned exercise to maintain core strength is often of significant benefit
