Q. My 8 year old male cat had a bout of diarrhea. This has never happened before. It was at 2 this morning. He is drinking water. No blood in stools.

A. Occasional bouts of diarrhea in otherwise healthy cats are not unusual and usually respond within 48hours to a bland boiled chicken/fish or commercial intestinal diet with or without a probiotic paste. Any vomiting, abdominal pain or fever would indicate further examination and treatment may be necessary. Check he is up to date with worm doses and did not have access to any unusual food especially diary products and monitor over 48-72hours long as he continues drinking
