Q. My cat was given Prazosin, Bethanecol & Baytril for a bladder inf and to get him to urinate on his own but now he is bleeding from his urethra. Why?

Answered By

A. It is possible the inflammation and infection has irritated the lining. Blockage is possible and he should be reassessed as soon as possible. If he strains and fails to urinate this is a medical emergency as he is unable to excrete salts and toxins as he should and this can have life threatening complications

A. That is a pretty hefty protocol for a simple bladder infection. Additionally baytril is not a good drug choice in young animals. I would stop all treatment and contact your veterinarian to run a chemistry panel to evaluate all organ function. I would be most concerned about the kidneys
