Q. I just found a large hard tumor like mass on my dogs gum line right by her tooth. What besides a cancer tumor could this be.

Answered By

A. It could be and inflamed root of a tooth, an abscess and also an overgrowth of bone due to maybe a former injury. There could also be a second tooth hidden in the bone that never erupted. I would observe the mass and as long as it does not change in appearance or size or color or gets painful I would not worry too much. However if there is a change in appearance or size or if it gets painful, it needs to be examined by a veterinarian.
