Q. Why does our dog butt scoot and lick around the anal area? Anal glands removed several years ago. Stools are normal. Otherwise healthy

Answered By

A. He may have worms. Another problem with older dogs' anal area could be fistulas which itch terribly, get infected. Sometimes food allergies can cause this. Some dogs also develop tumors of the hepatic glands present in the area of the anus (these are not the "anal glands " or anal sacs that were removed in your dog). You should have your vet examine your dog.
