Q. How can I monitor my diabetic dog at home?

Answered By

A. It can be done, although human glucometers are often not very accurate in animals. There are very accurate glucometers for dogs, for example Alphatrak. You can get it e.g from here http://bit.ly/1tntq6j.

The main difficulty is obtaining a blood sample. You can ask your vet to show you how to do it. With some experience it can be done fairly quickly and painlessly. Personally, my favorite site to take a blood sample is dog's ear.
