Q. Have a 6 year old black lab with open sores and skin cracks, smells like death, negative tests on sugar, but feels great and follows me. Any ideas?

Answered By

A. Have your dog examined by your veterinarian. Rule out infection (yeast or bacterial) as well as skin parasites such as mites or fleas. Allergies or food sensitivities as well as endocrine imbalances should also be explored as potential causes. If the skin is broken and sores are present, systemic antibiotic therapy and topical treatment may be indicated.
