Q. My chihuahua is 17 years old and was diagnosed with heart murmur,is it too late

Answered By

A. Not necessarily. A heart murmur is not an indication of function. It is caused by an abnormal flow of blood through the heart. To work it up and determine its significance will require chest xrays, an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) and possibly bloodwork before starting medication if indicated. Discuss diagnostics and treatment options in detail with your vet or a veterinary cardiologist.
