Q. Sudden onset deafness in a 6 yr old cav ks no change 3 months later no treatment fr bet just told that it sometimes just happens...

Answered By

A. Sudden onset deafness can be caused by infection, trauma or inappropriate medication. Have your vet rule out all the above. Also consider BAER testing which is the only accepted method to test for deafness in dogs. Your vet should be able to refer you to a specialist who can perform the testing. Occasionally, the deafness can have no direct or obvious cause. With some adjustments in the environment, a deaf dog can lead an otherwise normal life.
