Q. My 14 year old crossbreed dog as a abscess in his anal sack, how long will this take to clear up, and why his se pooing less? thank you.

Answered By

A. It will eventually rupture, drain then heal.. This may take weeks. Anal gland abscesses are very painful. He should be seen by your vet. The abscess should be lanced, drained and flushed. Your dog should then be placed on antibiotics and pain management. Place an e-collar on him to prevent licking. He is likely defecating less because it hurts to do so.
