Q. My dog is about 8 months old. She's developed a small growth on her genital area. Any ideas?

A. It may be irritation or infection. If she is licking, place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further trauma. Keep the area as clean and dry as you can. If it doesn't resolve or begins to spread, see your veterinarian.

A. Unfortunately, without images or an examination of the growth, it is hard to determine what could be going on. I'd highly recommend having your dog examined by a veterinarian who can take a sample of the growth to look at it microscopically to determine the cause. From there they will be able to evaluate whether or not it is concerning and if it should be removed and biopsied.
