Q. He is having problems with his feet from the salt and no longer can walk on bare floors

Answered By

A. Salt (ice melt) can be very irritating. Paws should be gently cleaned each time the dog returns from a trip outdoors. Rinse the feet in cool water and dry thoroughly. If the paws are raw or irritated, place an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking and see your vet for an exam. Booties can be used for walks outside but remove them once the dog is inside again.
