Q. I have a leopard gecko and I noticed 2 days ago that the left side of his head is swollen. What can I do

Answered By

A. Have him examined by an experienced herp vet. The swelling can be due to a tumor, bacterial infection, trauma, MBD or other nutritional deficiencies. A vet can perform a complete physical exam to narrow down the list. In the meantime, bump up cage temps to the higher end of the range (90F) and soak him in a 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte. Do this for 20-30 minutes twice daily. Make sure he continues to eat. Monitor for loss of appetite, lethargy, discharge or worsening of the swelling.
