Q. My 6mth old dachshund has been licking her rear end and twisting her hips around as if she is uncomfortable. Not an injury, she runs around normally

Answered By

A. This behavior sounds indicative of an anal gland problem. The anal glands may be exceptionally full which causes discomfort. Dogs will often try to lick their hind end or scoot their butts on the ground. Anal sac expression is a simple procedure, often able to be done by the technicians at your vet hospital. Call when able to make a quick appointment. If that is the cause, your dog should be relieved right away.
