Q. My 6 year old spayed Maltese-Yorkies dog weighs 12 lbs and her thyroid level was high--4.7 today. She has been on light science diet for a year.

A. Elevated thyroid hormones level is very uncommon in dogs. This test should be repeated, ideally with full thyroid panel. Hyperthyroidism is a very rare and serious condition in dogs, often related to malignant tumour so you have to make sure that her thyroid hormones levels are truly high (laboratory errors do happen and thyroids hormones levels fluctuate too).
