Q. I am looking for a home-made weight loss diet, any suggestions?

Answered By

A. While homemade foods are a great option, they should always be given under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your vet can help to monitor the diet to make sure your dog is losing weight safely and that his or her diet is balanced. Commercial foods for weight loss are also available and typically have a lower fat protein such as chicken, and are high in fibers. The high fiber content allows your dog to feel full without eating as many calories. Providing snacks or treats that are from foods such as carrots or broccoli can also help your dog feel fuller and replace his fattening treats with something healthier! A good exercise plan building up from short walks to longer ones can also help get him back in shape.
