Q. My Lab had her cruciate ligament repaired 7 months ago. She was shaved on her rear. The hair on her leg has grown back, but nothing on her back.

A. In some cases of shaving, the undercoat may be completely stripped and cause a bald patch or slow growing patch of hair to occur. This may return to normal growth when your dog goes through one of her full body shedding sessions though in some cases the hair may not grow back. If the hair is not growing back even after this, or if there appears to be problems with the skin itself, it may be good to have it looked at by the vet to make sure the hair follicles are not damaged or impeded by a secondary issue.
